Indosat joins WorldPartners

JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Indosat has joined WorldPartners, an alliance of world-class telecommunications operators, to boost its competitive edge.

Indosat's commercial director, Bambang Sulistyo, said yesterday that his company had been certified by WorldPartners in late May to introduce frame relay services.

"By joining WorldPartners, Indosat will be able to serve multinational companies which operate branches in Indonesia with WorldPartners' network," he said.

WorldPartners was set up in 1993 by three companies, AT&T of the United States, SingTel of Singapore and KDD of Japan. By June 25, WorldPartners had 16 members covering the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe and the Middle East with services provided in 32 nations and territories.

About 450 multinational companies used WorldPartners' networks, Bambang said.

Indosat has also set up Acacia, a joint venture with six major ASEAN telecommunications carriers. (icn)
