Indonesia's national coach Andi Muhammad Teguh dies
BANDUNG (JP): National soccer coach Andi Muhammad Teguh died here yesterday afternoon due to a heart attack.
Andi was watching an Indonesian league match between MBR Bandung and PSDS Deli Serdang when he collapsed, just 10 minutes after the opening whistle.
He was unconscious when fellow national coach Trie Gustoro admitted him to St. Borromeus hospital for emergency medical care. Doctors, however, failed to revive the 41-year-old national trainer. Time of death was announced as 04:50 p.m.
Andi, who learned soccer coaching in Salatiga, Central Java, from Dutch coach Wiel Coerver, is survived by his wife Liliana and their four children: Arie, 14 years old, Tika, 12, Rizki, 4, and Iran, 3.
Andi's body was returned home to Jakarta last night. A relative in Jakarta said that Andi will be buried today at 1 p.m. but she said place of burial was still being discussed among the family.
Former national coach Sinyo Aliandoe said that Andi, a former player of Surakarta, Central Java club Arseto and the national junior team, was a smart man with sharp analysis skills.
"Indonesia has lost the very best, a patient and highly- dedicated coach," Sinyo said.
Gustoro, the national Asia Cup team manager, said that Andi attended yesterday's match to watch a number of national squad members who were donning their club's colors.
Players of both teams observed a moment of silence for Andi just after the match. (17/yan)
