Indonesia's Davis Cup team

From Media Indonesia

The Davis Cup tennis match between Indonesia and Taiwan, the host, is drawing near. The skills of our players are soon to be tested at the PON XIV sports week, on courts which meet the requirements set for the Davis Cup tournament.

It appears that our Davis Cup team this time will meet our expectations -- it is the best team we have had so far and it seems more solid than previous teams. This can be seen from the thoroughness of their efforts in the limited time they spent in the training center before final selection.

Polemics aside, the defeat that was suffered by Suwandi, Donny Sesetyo and the others during the last Davis Cup tournament could serve as a useful lesson for Bonit Wiryawan, Sulistiwo and their colleagues so they may compensate for our defeat by South Korea and China during the last tournament.

The strength displayed by our doubles pair of Bonit Wiryawan and Sulistiwo Wibowo, besides their official PELTI (Indonesian Lawn Tennis Association) rankings, has been among the main considerations in the selection process. These two players are indeed strong.

In the men's singles, Andrian Raturandang and Sabastian da Costa rank about equally. Other possibilities are a doubles combination of Bonit Wiryawan/Sabastian da Costa or Sulistiwo Wibowo/Sabastian da Costa, while in the men's singles we could have Andrian and either Sulistiwo Wibowo or Bonit Wiryawan.

Without wishing to influence the official decision, it would seem that veteran players Atet Wiyono and Paulus Pasuray could help our team's solidity and thus help us get closer to victory.
