Indonesian student found dead in S'pore
JAKARTA (JP): A 19-year-old Indonesian student was found dead
Tuesday morning in a park in Woodlands, a new residential area in
Singapore.
An official at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore said
yesterday that evidence suggested that the deceased, Dini
Haryati, had been raped and severely abused.
The autopsy and postmortem examination conducted by Singapore
General Hospital indicated that the back of the victim's skull
was broken, and that she had been raped, Antara quoted embassy
official Priyono as saying.
He said Dini was a student from Bandung Tourism College in
West Java. She was on the island state for a five-month
internship program at Albert Court hotel.
She was scheduled to complete her internship program at the
end of this month.
Priyono said Dini's parents, one of whom is a director of
state-owned Bukopin Bank, had reportedly arrived in Singapore to
collect the body which is due to be flown back today.
Citing statements from Dini's roommate, Priyono said Dini had
not returned to her flat in Woodlands since Sunday.
Her friends believed she had spent the night at a friend's
residence, something which they said Dini often did.
Separately, a news report in Singapore yesterday reported that
the body of a semi-naked woman had been found in the bushes near
the Woodlands underground station.
Bruises were found on the dead woman's neck, forehead and
abdomen. (09)
