Indonesian sextuplets born in Singapore

JAKARTA (JP): Sextuplets were born by caesarian section to an Indonesian mother on Friday morning in Gleaneagles Hospital, Singapore.

The parents, Susan Tjokrosetio and Andre Prijono, were expecting quintuplets, but instead another baby was born to add to their joy.

The babies were born one minute apart from each other, starting with the only girl, Deidre. All the boys' names also start with the letter D.

"I thank God for giving me six babies. My father already prepared names for four boys and a girl. He was surprised when I asked for another name," said Susan.

Hendro Tjokrosetio, Susan's father, said that he gave names that start with D because Susan was his fourth child.

Even though the babies were born two weeks early according the head of the medical team, Christopher Chen, the babies were born healthy, weighing between 1.3 kg and 2 kg.

The couple came to Christopher for fertility drugs since they had been married three years but were unable to have children. Susan's sister happened to be an assistant of Christopher.

The couple were already expecting quintuplets since the pregnancy was three months old in June.

The sextuplets are not the only set in the couple's extended family. Andre's grandfather was born a twin.

The sixth baby was not seen until the mother went into labor. (46)
