Indonesian busted in Pakistan

JAKARTA (JP): An Indonesian woman has been arrested in Karachi, Pakistan, allegedly with four kilograms of heroin, a top city police detective told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

The officer, who requested anonymity, identified the woman as Diana Silviningrum, 29.

He added that the Indonesian national had been detained by the Karachi police since early this week.

"Police received the information from the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan, where Diana was arrested with the heroin, upon reaching there. She was arrested there," the officer said on Thursday.

He refused to give further details, adding that the heroin had a street market value of roughly Rp 1.2 billion (US$109,200).

Sources at the city police narcotics division said that Diana had left Bangkok for Pakistan, and was caught there with the drugs.

"Diana had been in Bangkok, and had left Bangkok for Pakistan. She was reportedly heading for Indonesia," a source said.

In a separate development, a Dutchman was arrested by city narcotics detectives last week allegedly with 150 ecstasy pills in his possession.

"The man is currently being questioned at city police headquarters. His name is Jefri Legan alias Papi. He first said he was French. We found out that he was a Dutchman, who changed his citizenship to Indonesian in 1996," the officer said.(ylt)
