Indonesian Arts Festival 2005
BANDUNG: Seven art colleges in Indonesia will participate in the fourth Indonesian Arts Festival, scheduled to take place on Nov. 24 through Nov. 27, 2005, at Bandung's Indonesian Arts College (STSI-Bandung) on Jl. Buahbatu, Bandung.
The seven colleges are the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI) of Yogyakarta, ISI-Denpasar, the Indonesian Arts College (STSI) of Surakarta, STIS-Padang Panjang, STSI-Surabaya, STSI-Bandung and the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ).
Arthur S. Nalan, the festival's chief organizer and rector of STSI-Bandung, said recently that no fewer than 40 participants would present their creations and hold an exhibition during the event.
"We also plan to organize a seminar at the end of the festival under the theme of arts and the environment, with arts observers Ignas Kleiden and Bambang Sugiharto as keynote speakers," added Nalan.
Each of the participating colleges will introduce a different angle in its artistic piece: STSI-Padang Panjang, for instance, will present the dance of soul and the song of heaven in a fantasy land called Mentawai.
ISI-Denpasar is ready with its Randeng Mawisya dance, portraying a widow with an awful magic aura. In addition, the institute will display its fine art and photographic works, themed a Waterfall Bunch.
Unlike the other colleges, IKJ will be screening short films produced by its students, each with a running time of 11 minutes to 20 minutes. --JP
