Indonesia hosts school tennis c'ship
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will host the 1999 Asian School Tennis Championship from Sept. 21 to Sept. 26 at the Senayan tennis complex.
Six countries -- Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, China and Bangladesh -- have registered to compete in the championship, to be played on clay courts.
Indonesia is sending eight junior players in its bid to retain the overall title it won in a previous event in 1993. They are Ferza Gautama, Irwan Rajab, Prima Simpatiaji and Naharuddin on the boy's team and Angelique Wijaya, Dea Sumantri, Frederika Girsang and Mudarwati on the girl's squad.
The championship is organized by the Directorate General for Extracurricular Education, Youth and Sport of the education and culture ministry and the Indonesian Tennis Association (Pelti). (ivy)
