Indian child dies on S'pore water ride
SINGAPORE (DPA): All water rides using rubber-foam slopes were closed on Singapore's Fantasy Island on Thursday after an 8-year- old Indian tourist died when a float overturned at the popular theme park, officials said.
The body of Saachi Sawhney was flown back to India for cremation.
She and her 12-year-old sister, Sukhna Kaur Sawhney, were sliding down the 100-meter ride Tuesday known as "Double Trouble" on a rubber raft when it overturned, officials said. Saachi was reportedly trapped when the hard foam lining the ride came lose and she was sucked underneath.
By the time lifeguards cut open the rubber matting to pull her out, the child was unconscious and pronounced dead at the Singapore General Hospital.
Sukhna, who was swept down the slope by the water, suffered bruises on her face, arms legs and chest.
