Independence Day photos displayed

Photographs of Independence Day celebrations on Aug. 17 from across the archipelago will be displayed at Galeri Foto Cahaya in Kemang, South Jakarta from Nov. 21 through Dec. 21.

The Indonesian Photo Journalists Association (PFI), the organizers of the photographic exhibition, will feature 80 photographs taken by 25 Indonesian photographers, grouped in the association.

The photographs, featuring a variety of styles, were taken during celebrations of the 56th anniversary of the country's independence all over the country.

Senior photographers, including Deniek G. Sukarya and Oscar Matuloh, were scheduled to open the exhibition in a gathering to break the fast on Wednesday.

PFI said that the exhibition, first of its kind, was aimed to remind the existence of people who did not care about the country's dying condition and to remind them on how their chauvinism had slowly crushed the country's spirit to live in one homeland, one nation, and one language: Indonesia. --JP
