Incinerator catches fire

BOGOR: An incinerator belonging to the Bogor mayoralty's Sanitation Agency caught fire on Tuesday, causing agency staff and local residents to panic.

The incinerator, which had only been installed in the agency's backyard a month ago, was being repaired at the time. The incident was caused by a leak in the kerosene pipe.

Students at a state elementary school located next to the agency on Jl. Paledang also rushed out of the classrooms.

Two fire engines soon arrived at the site to extinguish the fire so that it did not spread to a nearby tank containing 6,000 liters of kerosene.

The Rp 3.2 billion incinerator consisted of three units, each worked between 12 and 13 hours a day.

"The fire is not our responsibility, but the investor's, in this case PT Karya Puspita Utama," head of the agency, Saiful Anwar, said.

The fire caused losses of millions of rupiah. -- JP
