Inaccurate statement

May I refer to the article in the Insight section written by Kwik Kian Gie, titled 'Stable rupiah needed for recovery' (March 31).

In the article Kwik affirms that Mexico's economic crisis in the early 1980s was settled by the United States of America, diminishing the extraordinary efforts by the Mexican government to overcome the economic emergency and find a solution to the private sector's foreign debt.

Such a statement is inaccurate and does not contribute to an objective analysis of the problem. I will be glad to provide first-hand information on the Mexican experience at the time to anyone who may be interested in the topic.
