In Yangon, Myanmar's state-run media carried fresh denunciations of Suu Kyi on Thursday and said any stiffer sanctions against the military regime over her detention would backfire. Diplomats said the commentary, in a newspaper regarded as a junta mouthpiece, showed that the ruling generals were unlikely to bend to growing international pressure to free the Nobel laureate and other key leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
