Imported hazardous waste confiscated

JAKARTA: The customs office in Tanjung Priok port has seized 20 containers allegedly containing hazardous waste sent from the Netherlands.

Head of the Jakarta customs office's prevention and investigation unit, G.H. Suteja, said over the weekend that all the containers were now stored in the Jakarta International Container Terminal, Tempointeraktif.com reported.

"We have sealed all the containers," he said.

Refusing to reveal the content of the containers, Suteja said that the travel document of the containers stated it contained used paper.

The containers will be opened on Monday during a site check by State Minister for the Environment Rachmat Nadi Witoelar. -- JP
