Important attribute in feeling beautiful

Satisfaction

Satisfied with your beauty? Depends on whom you ask. When it comes specifically to beauty, again satisfaction varies by country and to some degree by marriage and children. Filipinas top the scale with 87 percent saying they are satisfied with their beauty. Meanwhile, Indonesians, Japanese and Koreans are least satisfied with their own beauty.

Meanwhile, within Indonesia, women in Medan and Jakarta are those who are most satisfied, while those in Bandung are far less so.

Important attributes

Across Asia, women chose such attributes as dignity, kindness, humor, happiness, intelligence and wisdom as being very important in feeling beautiful. The exception in Indonesia was humor, which ranked as a more important attribute elsewhere in Asia.

However, in Indonesia the top attribute was spirituality and religious faith -- the only country where these ranked as most important in feeling beautiful.

"Sexiness" ranked dead last in Indonesia as an attribute in feeling beautiful.

Views on weight

The countries with the largest percentage of women who feel "just right" about their weight includes: the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia. The fewest number of women who say they are too heavy came from the Philippines and Indonesia.

Within Indonesia itself, the women of Semarang were most critical of their weight.

Slimmer is good

Despite feeling that their weight is just right, Indonesian women, like others, feel compelled to believe that they would still be more attractive is they were slimmer. This is especially true of women from Medan, where twice as many feel that way as compared to women in Bandung on average. (Graphic 5)
