Immigration post in Irian Jaya

JAKARTA: The government will set up an immigration checkpoint in Skou, which lies on the border between Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea, the Directorate General of Immigration said yesterday.

The immigration post would facilitate the flow of people between the two countries, Director General Pranowo said in a statement.

Under an agreement with Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby will also build a similar facility at Wotung on the other side of the border, Pranowo said.

The immigration posts will be able to process both local border crossers, who carry special travel cards, as well as international travelers. (09)
