Immigration Office clarifies

With reference to an article published in The Jakarta Post on
Aug. 31, 2002 under the title Govt considers revoking visa-free
facility in coloumns 2 to 5 of the article page 1, allow us to
state that the news story saying that fourteen countries would
not be granted visa-free facilities, purportedly with the
directorate general of immigration as the source of information,
is not true and is groundless.

There has yet to be a new regulation about the changes in the
visa-free facility for a brief visit (BVKS).

Therefore the provisions as stipulated in Presidential Decree
No. 15/1983, which has been amended by Presidential Decree No.
39/1986 on the policy to develop tourism, and in Decree of the
Ministry of Justice No. M.02-IZ.01.02/1993 on BVKS are still
valid.

With this clarification, the public is expected not to nurture
a mistaken perception of this matter.

Note: Information regarding the 14 countries came from the
