Illegal shoes destroyed

BANDUNG: The West Java Police burned on Friday 120,000 pairs of locally produced sports shoes for misusing the famous brand of American shoemaker New Balance.

Antara reported on Friday that the shoes were seized from Budiman Halim, a local businessman, after the police received a complaint from the brand's copyright holder in Indonesia.

Lt. Col. Dadang Muharam, the police chief of detectives, said Budiman had been named a suspect for alleged copyright violation.

The American company reported a drop in the sales of its product in Indonesia following the marketing of shoes produced by Budiman's factory. (rms)
