Illegal migrant raid set for Senen

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta administration is set to launch an ID card raid on residents in the densely populated Kramat and Paseban subdistricts, Senen, later this month, an official has said.

Head of the mayoralty's Population and Civil Registration unit, Valentino HS, said the crackdown on Kramat subdistrict would be held on July 17, while the operation in Paseban would be held on July 24.

"Our target is to nab all of the illegal residents. Based on figures from such operations in previous years, the number of offenders of the residential law in Central Jakarta is the lowest," he was quoted by beritajakarta.com as saying on Tuesday.

He encouraged residents who had yet to obtain Jakarta identity cards to arrange for them at the nearest subdistrict office.

Even if one was obtained but someone has a Jakarta identity card with an address in a different subdistrict of the city, that person has to immediately report their existence to the neighborhood unit chief. --JP
