Illegal factories crowd Tangerang

TANGERANG: At least 600 warehouses in Tangerang regency have been illegally converted to factories producing electronic goods, an official revealed on Thursday.

Mursan Sobari, head of the building permit division at Tangerang Spatial Development and Management Agency, said that the owners of the warehouses have been summoned by the agency for clarification.

"They have violated Bylaw No. 10/2001 on the function of buildings, which stipulates that changing its function requires a permit from the agency," he said.

The warehouses are located in Kosambi, Teluk Naga and Sepatan districts.

Mursan further said that the violation had caused Rp 3 billion (US$326,086) in losses to the administration. The permit fee for a factory building is Rp 5 million. --JP
