'I'll save some of my salary for the new baby'

The government requires employers to pay at least one holiday bonus, or the equivalent of an extra month's salary, to workers. The Jakarta Post asked some residents about how they will spend this extra money.

Rinto, 46, is a janitor at the Jakarta Police headquarters. He lives with his wife and three children in Petamburan, Central Jakarta:

I'm planning to save the holiday bonus given by my superior to pay for my children's education.

I won't spend the money for a holiday picnic. My children are too old for that. We don't picnic anymore.

Jimmy, 27, works at an IT company in Kuningan, South Jakarta. He lives in a boarding house nearby in Karet area:

I'm not sure whether I will receive the bonus because I've been with the company less than a year.

But if I get it, I will save the money. I can still save from my monthly salary, but I need extra money to save so I can buy my own house or to establish my own company.

Hasan, 33, works as an account manager in a private radio station in South Jakarta. He lives in Bintaro, Tangerang:

Me and my wife have an agreement to celebrate Idul Fitri at her hometown in Kalimantan every other year to save costs.

So this year's holiday bonus really helped me to buy plane tickets to Kalimantan for us and our two children. We really needed the extra money to buy our relatives presents and treat them as well.

If we have some money left, I will save it for our new baby.
