IKJ lecturers exhibit artworks
JAKARTA (JP): Fine arts lecturers from the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ) are to show their work at an exhibition here.
At tonight's opening the teachers will allow their students to criticize them, the organizing committee chairwoman Ananda Moersid announced.
She said at a recent press conference that 26 of the lecturers would exhibit traditional artwork -- sculptures and paintings -- 30 graphic, interior and computer designs, and another 15 handicrafts made from textiles, ceramics and wood, at the 11-day exhibition at Galeri Nasional on Jl. Merdeka Timur, Central Jakarta.
To coincide with the exhibition, a seminar will be held on Oct. 2 to discuss the art. The speakers will be art critic and curator Jim Supangkat, craft teacher Yusuf Affendi, fine art designer Irvan Noe'man and art critic and observer Amir Sidharta, with Ananda and fine arts teacher Wagiono as the moderators.
Topics to be discussed will encompass the differences between the industry of arts and the art industry, setting new limitations on the art world, and IKJ's future role.
IKJ is organizing the seminar in collaboration with The Jakarta Post and the exhibition with the Ministry of Education and Culture. (02)
