Iki Indah Kabel profits

JAKARTA (JP): Cable producer PT Iki Indah Kabel Indonesia made a Rp 1.98 billion (US$811,220) profit in 1996 after suffering a Rp 5.8 billion loss in 1995.

Kenji Murata said Friday after the company's extraordinary shareholders' meeting here that the firm's sales declined to Rp 193 billion last year, from Rp 204.1 billion in 1995.

Kenji said that in the middle of 1996 Iki Indah started operating new production units to manufacture foam-skin telephone cables, optic fiber cables and high voltage cables.

Their operations helped increased the company's revenue from the sale of telephone cables from Rp 10 billion in 1995 to Rp 40 billion in 1996.

He said that because the company had anticipated the decline in power cable demand from the State Electricity Company (PLN) in 1996, it focused its sales on the private sector.

He said power cable sales to the private sector increased by 30 percent from Rp 29 billion in 1995 to Rp 38 billion in 1996, bringing its total power cable sales to Rp 54 billion.

The company would distribute Rp 1.08 billion in dividends to its shareholders, he said. (13)
