IFC gives $200,000 grant for Aceh

JAKARTA: The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private funding arm of the World Bank, announced it had provided a US$200,000 grant for the recovery of the education sector in tsunami-ravaged Aceh.

A press statement issued on Wednesday said that the funds would be distributed via the Sampoerna Foundation, a non-profit organization active in the education sector.

The grant is provided as an expression of the concern by IFC member countries about the impact of the recent natural disaster and to contribute to recovery in Aceh, the statement said.

"A solid foundation in education helps young people achieve their potential. The children of Aceh must be able to get back to their studies in proper schools as soon as possible," said IFC Country Manager German Vegarra. -- JP
