IEO donates Rp 100m for elephants

BENGKULU: The United States-based International Elephant Organization has donated Rp 100 million (US$12,000) for elephant conservation activities in Bengkulu.

The donation, which was handed over on Thursday by Heidi Riddle and Dennis Schmitt of IEO to Agus Pambudi, head of Bengkulu's conservation office, would be used for medicine and food for elephants and incentives for workers there.

The Bengkulu conservation office manages the elephant training center located at Seblat, 147 kilometers north of Bengkulu municipality.

IEO has been giving donations to conservationists since 2000.

Agus said his office received Rp 600 million each year for operational costs. - Antara
