Idul Fitri open house at palace

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri and her husband Taufiq Kiemas will open the State Palace for an Idul Fitri get- together with the general public on Friday.

The palace's press and media affairs announced Tuesday that the public will be given time between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to meet with the president during the post-Ramadhan celebration. Those who wish to come will have to take the route through the State Secretariat on Jl. Majapahit, Central Jakarta, and private vehicles can be parked in the State Secretariat compound, which will close its gates promptly at 5 p.m.

Cameras and cellular phones will not be allowed at the Idul Fitri get-together.

At 10 a.m. on the same day, the President is scheduled to receive Vice President Hamzah Haz and his family, as well as state officials, Cabinet ministers and foreign diplomats after the Friday prayer. -- JP
