IDs for independence pioneers
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Social Services Endang Kusuma Inten Suweno handed over special identification cards to independence pioneers for their meritorious contributions to the nation.
Inten said that the cards are a government effort to assist those who took part in the national cause.
Five people symbolically received the cards at the minister's office yesterday on behalf of the 474 recipients.
The cards will entitle them to health insurance and the use of facilities in both state-owned and private hospitals, free of charge and in cooperation with the state-owned Askes health insurance company.
"The cards can also be used for public transportation discounts," Inten said.
The ceremony was also attended by Rahmi Hatta, the wife of Indonesia's first vice president Mohammad Hatta, Siti Wahjunah Sjahrir, wife of the first prime minister Sutan Sjahrir and Nelly Adam Malik, wife of the third vice president, Adam Malik. (05)
