ID card raids planned

JAKARTA: East Jakarta mayoralty will conduct ID card raids in certain parts of the mayoralty in anticipation of the influx that usually occurs after the Lebaran holidays.

The raids will be conducted a week after Idul Fitri at bus stations, houses and boarding houses, as well as on the streets, spokesman of the East Jakarta mayoralty, Rusli Kahar, was quoted by beritajakarta.com as saying.

Rusli added, East Jakarta was already packed with 1.1 million residents, and called for Lebaran travelers not to bring their unskilled relatives to the area.

Non-Jakarta residents will be required to equip themselves with letters explaining their temporary stay and their occupation while staying in the city, as well as a guarantee of accommodation.

"If anyone is caught without those letters, we will not hesitate to send them back to their village," Rusli said.

In carrying out the raids, the East Jakarta mayoralty will be assisted by city public order officials, along with the city police and military personnel.--JP
