ID card applicants disappointed

TANGERANG: ID card applicants in Tangerang have been returning home empty-handed due to a total absence of application forms in the city over the last two weeks.

Some applicants said that they had been going back and forth to their local district offices trying to apply for the ID cards, Antara reported on Wednesday.

"I need a new ID card to seek a job in Jatake in Jatiuwung district. Every company asks for ID cards as part of the job application requirements," said 18-year-old Sumarni, who came from Lampung to seek a job.

Starting from February, ID card applications will be handled by the Tangerang population agency's branches in each subdistrict rather than by the district offices.

Tangerang district secretary Irfan Prasetio said that new applicants would only be served starting on Jan. 24 as a result of the introduction of the new system. -- JP
