ICW slams deputy attorneys general

JAKARTA: Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) strongly condemned on Wednesday the staunch support of deputy attorneys general for their boss M.A. Rahman, who is under fire in a case of alleged corruption.

The action of the deputies, who have closed ranks to support Rahman without reservations, was misplaced, as the attorney general's case was a personal one, and had nothing to do with the AGO as an institution, said ICW. It would therefore discredit the reputation of the Attorney General's Office with the public.

ICW demanded that the deputy attorneys general who supported Rachman be released from their posts, said ICW in a statement made available to the media.

M.A. Rahman is currently in hot water after media reports suggested that his house in South Jakarta may have been acquired using ill-gotten gains. -- JP
