ICW denies

In its "Your Letters" column, The Jakarta Post published on March 15, 1999, a joint statement of the World Bank and the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) concerning clarification of the World Bank aid to the PDAM Jaya in connection with ICW's statement in an article published in the Post on March 12, 1999, on page three under the headline: ICW links Soeharto to city water deal.

We are surprised at the publication of the letter because ICW has never been involved in the issuance of such letter. It is true that the concept of the letter was sent to us to be signed by us. However, we refused to sign the letter because we feel we do not have to correct our statement in the March 12 article, believing that the statement reflects the truth.

We have also explained to the World Bank that the World Bank aid to PAM Jaya has been going on since 1978, namely for Pulogadung Phase I Project (IIP 164 and IP 171). We obtained this data from The Summary of Loan Term for PAM Jaya printed on April 3, 1998, that was provided by the World Bank staff.
