ICMI to hold int'l conference
JAKARTA: The European branch of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) is holding a two-day international conference in Hamburg starting on Saturday, themed Challenges in South Asia at the Beginning of the 21st Century.
Held at Le Meridien Hotel, the conference will discuss a range of topics, including international terrorism, the role of religion, and the necessity for a reform in Islamic thought.
In cooperation with the University of Hamburg's Asia-Africa Institute, the conference will be attended by around 40 representatives of ICMI in Europe, as well as students and academics.
Speakers include ICMI founder and former Indonesian president B.J. Habibie, Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, and ICMI chairman Muslimin Nasution. -- JP
