Ice sculpture on display

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Military Command Chief Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso opened Saturday an ice sculpture exhibition in the eastern parking lot of Senayan stadium in Central Jakarta.

The exhibition, called the Harbin International Ice Show, will be open to the public for three months. On display are the works by some 25 Indonesian and Chinese ice sculptors.

"This exhibition shows a cultural harmony between the two countries," Sutiyoso said at the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, Fenny Natalia from PT Idola Keluarga Utama, chief sponsor of the event, said the committee is using some equipment made in China, including a machine to make artificial snow.

"The exhibition speaks volumes for the great ability of Indonesian ice sculptors despite the fact that, being a tropical country, there is no snow here," Fenny remarked. (jun)
