IBRA under a new chairman

Hopefully, the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) will be able to work more expeditiously under the helmsmanship of its new chairman, Cacuk Sudarijanto. By doing so the agency would be contributing much to efforts to stem inflation, revive the real sector, bolster the public's confidence and maintain a rate of interest that is acceptable to business, stabilize the rate of the rupiah and revive the economy.

In addition to all that, however, it will be most important to establish an image of IBRA as a prudent, and friendly institution that is capable of acting firmly and yet authoritatively toward business organizations. Aside from that, IBRA will also have to be constantly on guard against foreign efforts to exploit our present economic discomfort because if that happens, Indonesians would veritably become serfs in their own country.
