'I want to go back to school'

Badminton player Taufik Hidayat has become a star. The world
number one and the favorite to win gold in the men's singles at
the Olympics, Taufik is somewhat of an idol, especially among
young women. Born in Bandung on Aug. 10, 1981, Taufik's potential
was first spotted by former shuttler Iie Sumirat. Taufik has more
than realized this potential by helping the country win the
Thomas Cup for the 12th time and winning the single's titles at
the Indonesia and Malaysia opens. Taufik, who has found himself
in the spotlight due to his relationships with tennis star Wynne
Prakusya and AB Three singer Nola, recently spoke with The
Jakarta Post's Primastuti Handayani.

Question: If you had the choice, what would you be doing now?

I really want to go back to school. I'm a registered student
at Tarumanegara University, but just like other athletes I never
attend class.

What makes you tick?

Hmmm ...

Which trait do you most like about yourself?

I realize that sometimes I have a bad attitude. I just want to
improve it.

And deplore?

Don't know.

Whom do you admire?

Definitely my parents.

What kind of clothes do you like to wear?

Something casual. Usually jeans, T-shirts and casual shirts.
But they must be black or dark colored. I hate clothes that are
too complicated.

What was the last book you read?

Playboy ... just kidding. I never read serious books. I just
read novels I borrow from friends. But don't ask me the titles, I
don't remember. I read magazines more than books.

What makes you angry?

Being cheated and lied to. If I can't ask them to change their
behavior, I'll be very upset.

When was the last time you were angry?

One day in June. Just don't ask me why, it's personal.

What characteristics do you dislike in others?

I hate hypocrisy.

Are we alone in the universe?

Definitely not.

What makes you laugh?

Funny jokes.

And cry?

When I win a big tournament or when I face a big disaster.

What is your favorite smell?

Food.

If there was something you could change about your appearance,
what would it be?

Nothing. I'm satisfied with my appearance.

What makes life worth living?

When we can thank God for everything we have achieved.

Do you have a favorite song?

No. Just something good to listen to.

And movie?

Action movies, either Mandarin kung fu movies or movies from
the West.

What is your favorite food?

Seafood. I also like Chinese food.

What characteristics do you love in women?

Happiness, understanding, honesty and independence.

Do you ever worry about your weight?

Who cares?

Where is your favorite hangout?

Cafes with live music.

What is the cost of popularity?

I lost my youth. I can't do things I used to.

What will you be doing 20 years from now?

Don't know.

How would you like to be remembered?

A real champion, on and off the court.
