Hyatt expands to Bandung
JAKARTA (JP): The hotel market in Bandung, West Java, is expected to toughen with the five-star Hyatt Regency Bandung planned to open there next April.
A manager of the planned 255-room hotel, Putu Indrawati, told The Jakarta Post Thursday evening that the hotel, owned by the publicly listed property firm PT Bhuwanatala Indah Permai, would schedule its grand opening for July 1997.
The hotel will be built on Jl. Merdeka in central Bandung, the country's third largest city after Jakarta and Surabaya (East Java).
There are few star-rated hotels in Bandung. The Grand Preanger is now the only five-star hotel there. It is managed by the state-owned hotel operator Aerowisata.
Among the four-star hotels in Bandung are the Aquila, Chedi, Hasanah (Choice), Jayakarta, Santika and Sheraton.
The New York-based Hyatt chain manages five other hotels in Indonesia, including the Hyatt Regency in Surabaya, East Java; Grand Hyatt and Aryaduta in Jakarta; and Grand Hyatt and Bali Hyatt in Bali.
Paula said that Hyatt would also open a Hyatt Regency in Yogyakarta by the end of this year. (icn)
