Hunger strike ends at hospital
TANGERANG: Three students of the Raharja Academy/College of Computer Information Management (AMIK/STMIK) on Jl. Jend. Sudirman of Tangerang municipality, were rushed to the emergency room of Tangerang General Hospital on Friday afternoon suffering from complications resulting from a hunger strike.
The three students, Zajuli Adnan, 26, Achmad Sanjaya, 21, and Romadona, 21, were evacuated from a tent they had pitched in front of the campus, because their physical condition had continued to deteriorate.
Their health suffered from a hunger strike they had held since Wednesday. Only Romadona could still talk and move.
Romadona said that they had begun a hunger strike on Wednesday to protest the university rector's decision on Feb. 26 to suspend them for one semester from campus activities, as punishment for losing the institution's flag during a rally before the House of Representatives building on Jl. Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta.
Dr. Fanny, who received the three students at the hospital at 4 p.m., said that for the time being, the three students had been diagnosed with dehydration from a lack of fluids and food.
Meanwhile, Hendri, the deputy rector dealing with student affairs, said that the campus would not revoke the punishment imposed on Adnan and Sanjaya, even if they did return the missing flag.--JP
