Hundreds sleep at railway station

JAKARTA: Hundreds of would-be passengers spent the night at Senen railway station in Central Jakarta queuing for tickets.

It was 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday and there was another hour before the ticket window opened, but the crowd impatiently demanded the immediate sale of tickets, Antara reported.

"I have been here since 7 p.m. last night. I was here yesterday at 2 in the afternoon, but the tickets were sold out," Tarno, who wanted to buy an economy-class ticket to Kutoarjo, Central Java, said.

Tickets sold on Wednesday were for trips on Dec. 12 as all earlier departure dates were no longer available.

There was a TV monitor installed in the compound to inform the public about the available seats. Unfortunately, it did not work.--JP
