Hundreds ransack police station

BOJONEGORO, East Java: An angry mob ransacked a police sub- precinct here on Tuesday after the release of a group of people accused of assaulting a martial arts guru.

Antara reported that at least one police officer was injured in the incident.

Police were outnumbered on Tuesday as most personnel were at the funeral of a dead comrade, the news agency said.

The news agency said that the attack on the police subprecinct was triggered by the police's decision to release four people accused of assaulting Dasuki, the leader of a local martial arts group.

Police said that they had to release Sutaji, Todikin, Bambang and Dar due to a lack of evidence.

The four were arrested after a brawl with Dasuki earlier this week.

The brawl left Dasuki with head injuries and as of Tuesday he was still being treated at a local hospital, the news agency said.(byg)
