Hundreds of school buildings in disrepair

TEGAL, Central Java: At least 425 or some 40 percent of 1,090 school buildings in Tegal regency are in a state of disrepair due to age and natural disaster.

Most of the buildings are elementary school buildings, said Dimyati, the chairman of Education Council in Tegal regency.

He said that the schools had to be repaired soon, in case they collapsed and claimed fatalities among students.

Dimyati demanded that the government put aside a portion of the Rp 6.7 billion fund for education as already promised by the government to repair the school buildings. -- JP
