Human skeletons found in train
YOGYAKARTA: A black traveling bag containing human skeletal remains was found in an Empu Jaya train car, the same train that collided with the Cirebon Express locomotive in Cirebon on Sept. 2, at Yogyakarta Lempuyangan railway station on Friday.
"The bag was found by Rusdiyono, a porter living in Lempuyangan Danurejan, Yogyakarta. He was just offering his services to train passengers when he saw the bag," head of the Yogyakarta city police detective unit Suroto was quoted by Antara as saying on Saturday.
Not knowing what was inside the bag, Rusdiyono handed it over to a police officer at the Lempuyangan train station where it was placed in front of the police post at the station in the hope that its owner could see and claim it.
As no one had claimed the bag by 10 p.m., police officers agreed to open the bag. To their surprise it contained human bones wrapped in white cloth.
"We have no idea how the bag was placed in the coach," said Suroto.
Police also did not speculate as to whether the remains were related to the Sept. 2 train crash which killed 41 people and injured more than 60. (02)
