HP donates to the disabled

JAKARTA (JP): Hewlett-Packard has signed an agreement with the Society for the Care of Children with Disabilities through which the world's second largest computer company presented a donation in kind worth US$120,000 to the foundation for administrative and training purposes.

"Every year HP sets aside a budget for its worldwide charitable activities, and this year it has chosen the disabled children in Indonesia for the program," Rita Panambunan, HP's corporate PR manager, said on Tuesday.

The donation will come in the form of PCs, modems, scanners, laser and DestJet printers.

"We are linking the foundation up with all its 16 branches throughout Indonesia in order to help it in its management and administration," said Khoo Teng Liat, the president of PT HP Berca Servisindo.

For this purpose, the donation also includes a server computer for the foundation's database and administrative applications.

The donation also includes consultancies, software development for administration and management, PCs for computer classes, licensed software from Microsoft and training for the computer trainers and operators.

The foundation provides medical care, general education and pre-vocational training services to 3,000 disabled children.
