Housing complex needs reviewing

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta administration has been urged to review the construction of a housing complex located near the Dolog Jaya Kelapa Gading rice barns.

"The distance between the housing complex and the barns is very close. We are worried that residents will be affected by skin irritations caused by rice fleas," city councilor Hasan Dasy said as he and several other councilors made a site inspection of the warehouses.

He said the Dolog barns were built in the early 1970s when the surrounding areas were still marshy and filled with rice fields.

The rapid pace of housing construction has caused the warehouses to be surrounded by housing complexes.

Hasan said it was unlikely the warehouses could be relocated because the barns store rice for Armed Forces members and civil servants. (bas)
