Housewife hangs herself

JAKARTA (JP): A housewife committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, yesterday, after a heated argument with her husband.

The victim, identified as Yuvensia Kristinawati, 26, was found hanging from the window of her room by her housemaid, Sri Lestari, 14.

The woman, who worked in the accounts department of tire manufacturing firm PT Gadjah Tunggal was believed to have been suffering from depression.

Sri told the police that Tina, as Yuvensia was popularly known, had a heated dispute with her husband, Sutisna, on Sunday.

Sri said that Sutisna wanted to borrow Tina's motorcycle to take his father to Bekasi, but Tina refused to give him the ignition key for a reason which is not yet clear. Sutisna, angered at the refusal, left the house and went to Serang in West Java.

Sutisna, who works in Cikarang, Bekasi, did not go to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue before Tina's body was taken to her hometown of Magelang in Central Java for burial.

Neni Sukarti, a close friend of the dead woman, said that Tina and her husband were frequently involved in minor quarrels.

She said that Tina was also afraid of losing her job. "She repeatedly told me that their income was not enough to meet their family's needs," Neni said. (ivy)
