Houses destroyed by strong winds

BANDUNG, West Java: Strong winds have destroyed dozens of houses, felled hundreds of trees and cut electrical power, disrupting work in a number of industries, Antara reported.

There were no reports of casualties due to the strong winds and heavy rains that began Friday at 2 p.m. and lasted for about one hour. The districts hit were Pameungpeuk and Arjasari, 20 kilometers south of Bandung.

"The noise was thunderous. I felt the house shaking," said Adas Supriyatna, an official in Lebakwangi subdistrict, Arjasari.

Traffic was halted along the Bandung-Banjaran toll road because of trees that fell on the road. (swe)
