Housemaid kills unwanted baby

BOGOR (JP): A 24-year-old housemaid was arrested for allegedly killing her unwanted baby, the result of a relationship with her male employer, an officer said on Wednesday.

Bogor Regency Police chief Lt. Col. Ade Husen said Anisah was apprehended on Tuesday after local residents of Pasir Gabuk village in Cisarua, Cigudeg, reported the discovery of a baby's leg.

During interrogation, Anisah admitted that she killed the baby immediately after the birth on the night of March 28, but denied mutilating the newborn, Ade said.

"She dumped the baby to cover her humiliation. She was ashamed to give birth to a baby resulting from an illicit relationship with her employer."

Anisah said her employer was a lonely man and owned an electronic and grocery shop at Pasar Anyar here, Ade said.

Ade did not identify Anisah's employer, nor did he disclose whether police have questioned the man.

"The suspect acknowledged having sex with her boss at least 10 times. She said she was raped the first time but then enjoyed the experience on subsequent occasions."

Anisah said that after giving birth on her own, she hastily killed the infant and then bundled the baby with cloth and plastic sheeting, planning to bury it the next morning, Ade said.

The bundle was kept in the backyard of her house in Pasir Gabuk, the officer said.

"The next morning, she learned the baby was missing," Ade said.

The bundle might have been dragged by dogs to another location, he said.

Ade said police were still investigating Anisah's version of events.

"As of today. we're still tracing the whereabouts of other body parts of the baby."

Anisah is being detained by Bogor Regency Police for further questioning. (bsr/24)
