House urged to probe Telkom scam

JAKARTA: The labor union of state telecommunication company PT Telkom demanded on Wednesday that the House of Representatives investigate an alleged graft case involving the Central Java office of the firm.

The labor union said the case had inflicted Rp 2 trillion (US$200 million) in losses to the state.

Syahrul Akhyar, chairman of the union, said he was also curious about the sale of PT Telkom's partner PT Mitra Global Telecommunication Indonesia (MGTI) to PT Alberta, which he said had no track record in telecommunication operations.

He suspected the sale had the backing of a high-ranking state official whom he refused to identify. -- JP
