House to probe toll road pileup

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives agreed on Wednesday to set up an investigation team that would carry out a probe into the deadly Nov. 17 pileup on the Jagorawi toll road, which killed six people and injured dozens.

The House Commission V on Transportation and Telecommunications decided in a meeting with the Jakarta Police and toll road operator PT Jasa Marga that the team would delve into the possible irregularities that caused the mishap.

"This is the first time a fatal accident occurred after an entourage of the President (drove past a road)," Commission V chairman Soemarjoto of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle said. The team will consist of members of Commission V and Commission III on Law and Security.

The lawmakers also called on the life insurance company PT Jasa Raharja to speedily disburse claims to families of those who perished in the accident. -- JP
