House to probe toll road pileup

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives agreed on Wednesday to
set up an investigation team that would carry out a probe into
the deadly Nov. 17 pileup on the Jagorawi toll road, which killed
six people and injured dozens.

The House Commission V on Transportation and
Telecommunications decided in a meeting with the Jakarta Police
and toll road operator PT Jasa Marga that the team would delve
into the possible irregularities that caused the mishap.

"This is the first time a fatal accident occurred after an
entourage of the President (drove past a road)," Commission V
chairman Soemarjoto of the Indonesian Democratic Party of
Struggle said. The team will consist of members of Commission V
and Commission III on Law and Security.

The lawmakers also called on the life insurance company PT
Jasa Raharja to speedily disburse claims to families of those who
perished in the accident. -- JP
