House refuses to further fund KPU

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives' budget committee has
rejected the General Elections Commission's (KPU) request for Rp
418 billion (US$534,444) in additional funds for the second round
of the presidential election on Sept. 20.

Committee chairman Abdullah Zainie argued on Thursday that the
KPU must detail it's reasons for requesting the money.

The commission had to account for more than Rp 3.5 trillion
disbursed for the April 5 legislative election and the July 5
presidential election, before asking for additional funds, he
