House, government discuss lawmaking

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives and the government will meet on Jan. 24 through Jan. 26 to decide which bills will be put on the priority list for this year.

Muhammad AS Hikam, chairman of the House's Legislation Body (Baleg), said he hoped the House and the government would reach a consensus by Feb.1.

"We have to make a decision soon so that we will have enough time to deliberate those bills," he said on Wednesday.

According to him, the House had proposed about 50 bills, including those collected from the public. The government and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) proposed 63 bills and 40 bills respectively. -- JP
